A flaw in a British food service company’s new refund policy has been discovered thanks to some strange refund claims. A consumer who bought food from Just Eat recently requested a refund for their order. According to the Manchester Evening News, the reason was that the four milkshakes, a cheesecake, and an ice cream they ordered were “cold.”
And the request for a refund was granted. Just Eat used to contact the restaurants first before issuing a refund. It was done to verify whether or not the refund being issued was real. Although, in order to keep competitive with other online food services such as UberEats and Deliveroo, they have revised their policy to expedite refunds while giving its partner-restaurants 30 days to challenge any claims.
The restaurant owners that have partnered with the food delivery service will eventually bear the burden of this legislation. Customers are abusing Just Eat’s new option, according to Hassan Habib, the proprietor of Lucky’s Diner in Oldham, which received the unusual milkshake refund request.
Customers are requesting strange refunds, according to the proprietor. Mr Habib, on the other hand, agreed that they make mistakes from time to time, but that they try to compensate their clients by providing a replacement item or a complete refund. However, “some really nasty people,” according to Habib, are taking advantage of the loophole.
“Nobody is doing anything about it, I feel like I’m just banging my head against a brick wall. This is affecting hard-working families and they’ve got nowhere to turn, we’ve just been left to put up with it,” he said.
Just Eat, on the other side, has stated that it will address Habib’s concerns about the false refund claims. According to a spokeswoman for the company, their food delivery service is only profitable if their restaurant partners are also successful.
