Bengaluru: Days after busting a ghee adulteration racket by misusing KMF’s popular “Nandini Ghee” brand, officials on Tuesday conducted surprise raids on shops and warehouses across the city and confiscated suspected adulterated ghee.
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) officials had set up a vigilance squad to tackle the issue of adulterated ghee, being sold under the Nandini brand after the racket was unearthed on Thursday, December 16.
According to a DHNS report, raids were conducted at retail stores in Jayanagar, Srinagar as well as in two warehouses in Hoskote and Makali. An official remarked that the spurious ghee confiscated from the above-said locations had procured the ghee from the manufacturing unit that was raided last week.
The FSSAI takes up to two weeks to come up with reports on the adulteration of the food while the KMF labs can test the products and produce authentic results within a day.
Further officials have said that they are mulling introducing a QR code-based authentication system on the Nandini products package to prevent easy mimicking of their designs.
