Fisherman tortured for alleged theft of mobile phone; six held

Mangaluru: Police on Thursday arrested six persons for assaulting a fisherman by hanging him upside down in the Bunder area.

Konduru Polayya (23), Avula Raj Kumar (26), Kaatangari Manohar (21), Vutukori Jalayya (30), Karpingari Ravi (27) and Pralaya Kaveri Govindayya (47) — all natives of Andhra Pradesh and fishermen by profession have been arrested in connection with the case.

 

The incident which took place a few days back came to light after a video of the horrific incident went viral on social media. In the video, a group of people are seen torturing the victim identified as Vaila Sheenu after hanging him upside down from a crane.

As per reports, they suspected Sheenu of stealing a mobile phone and thus assaulted him.
