Woman sarpanch’s naked body found dumped on roadside in Raigad

Mumbai: The naked body of a 48-year-old woman sarpanch of a village in the Raigad district of Maharashtra was reportedly found dumped in the bushes in Beloshi village of Mahad taluk on Monday afternoon.

The body was found by a local youth who went ahead to check a suspicious gunny bag thrown by the roadside, reports said.

The body was taken to a government hospital nearby where she was declared brought dead. She was later identified as the sarpanch of a local gram panchayat, India Today reported.

Police were called in who conducted initial investigations. The close relatives of the deceased were also questioned, the report said.

The mortal remains, meanwhile, have been sent for an autopsy. It was immediately not known if the woman was sexually assaulted.

A case is registered against unknown culprits for murder.
