A delegation of Yakshagana artistes have submitted a memorandum to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V seeking exemption Yakshagana from night curfew restrictions.
The government had announced a 10-day night curfew i.e from 10 pm to 5 am from Dec 28 amid rising cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus.
The delegation in its memorandum cited the financial distress suffered by the artistes since the onset of the pandemic.
As the Yakshagana season has just begun, they urged the district administration to consider extending the night curfew deadline from 10 pm to 12 midnight.
The delegation warned of holding a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office if the district administration fails to take necessary steps
Rajesh Gujaran, manager of Sasihitlu Yakshagana Mela; S A Varkadi, manager of Mangaladevi Mela; Bappanadu Mela manager Vinod Kumar Bajpe, Sunkadakatte Mela manager Ramesh Kulshekhar, Nagashakti Mela manager Santhosh Shetty Kadthala and artistes were part of the delegation.
