Udupi: Assault on Koraga community at Mehandi function; Victims to be given Rs 2 lakh compensation

Udupi: The state government has decided to give Rs 2 lakh to those who have been assaulted by the police officials on December 28 at Koraga colony under Kotathattu gram panchayat over complaints about the loud music in a Mehandi function.
Home minister Araga Jnanendra on Saturday visited the house of Rajesh, the groom who was assaulted by the police and consoled his family members.
Jnanendra said that the case will be handed over to COD and PSI has already been suspended.
“I heard that the complaint filed by the police is false and there is no need for Rajesh’s family to get scared. The government is with you,” he added.
He further said that he has grown up with the Koraga community and also used to carry gunny bags on his back along with Koraga community people. They are very innocent and rarely do this kind of Mehendi programme.
Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the government is committed to provide justice to the family and will speak about this issue with the chief minister again.
Deputy commissioner Kurma Rao M, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, gram panchayat president of Kotathattu Ashwini Dinesha, Saligram town panchayat president Sulatha Hegde and others were present.
