Salethur: Groom dresses as ‘Koragajja daiva’ during wedding celebrations; draws ire

Salethur: In a shocking incident, a man was dressed as ‘Koragajja Daiva’ during his wedding celebrations at Kolnadu village, Bantwal Taluk. The video of the incident went viral and drew the ire of many for insulting one of the most revered daiva of Tulunadu.
It is said that the incident occurred during the wedding celebrations of Kolnadu resident Azeez’s daughter.
The wedding took place in the afternoon and as per Muslim traditions, the groom’s side along with his friends arrived at the bride’s house at night.
In the video, the groom’s side were seen dancing on the road and the groom was dressed up as ‘Koragajja daiva’. He was seen wearing an areca nut leaf cap and also had smeared black ink on his face.
The incident was condemned by not only the Hindu organizations but several Muslim organizations too urged the concerned officials to take strict action against the culprits.
President of DK District Muslim Okkoota, K Ashraf condemned the act depicting a particular community in such a derogatory manner. “Such an attitude is contrary to the practice of marriage in the Muslim community. Under no circumstances should such an attitude be justified,” he said and called for the strictest action against the culprits.
The founding President of the DK District Dalit Seva Samiti, Sesappa Bedrakadu claimed that legal action will be taken against the miscreants involved in the act.
