A headmistress of a government high school in Srirangapatna has been suspended over allegations that she forced a Class 8 girl student to strip for carrying a mobile phone to class.

The girl’s parents had complained to the senior officers in the education department and urged for action against the headmistress Snehalatha. Parents of a few wards even staged a protest in front of the school against the punishment meted to the student.

Commissioner for Public Instruction R Vishal issued orders for her suspension on Friday. As the parents were skeptical to send their wards to the school following the incident, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Javaregowda informed them about Snehalatha’s suspension and told them to send the children to school.
