Mangaluru: Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Bharat Shetty dismissed Congress’ Mekedatu walk as an “election gimmick.”
Talking to reporters on Monday, the MLA of the ruling BJP said that Congress had every opportunity to implement the Mahadai Project and the Mekedatu project when they were in power in the state. “As the current Tamil Nadu government is a Congress ally, the issue can be amicably negotiated and ended,” he said.
Further, he accused Congress of jeopardizing the health of the citizens for political gains. “Holding a rally in the midst of a pandemic shows that Congress has little regard for the health and safety of the people. He also said that Siddaramaiah and DK Sivakumar were at the beginning of the Mekedadatu Hike.
Touching upon the recent incidents of hurting religious beliefs in the district, Bharat said that mockery of religious matters will not be tolerated. He called on the clergy and the community leaders to give proper guidance to those who commit such heinous acts.
