DK Shivakumar seen meeting kids without mask; NCPCR takes cognisance

Bengaluru: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken cognizance of an event where Congress leader DK Shivakumar was allegedly seen violating COVID-19 norms in the presence of school children and “indulging them into political activity”.
The commission noted that in videos of the event circulated online, both Shivakumar and the children are seen without masks. The NCPCR urged the authorities to initiate appropriate action against Shivakumar.
The letter read, “In view of the above, the Commission deems it appropriate to take cognizance U/s 13 (1) (j) of CPCR Act, 2005 and observes a prima-facie violation of provisions under Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, Epidemic Disease Act, 1897, and Disaster Management Act, 2005. Therefore, it is requested that your good offices may kindly look into the said allegations made in the complaint to ensure the welfare and safety of children and further.”
