The ministers stated that they had heard of the matchbox saree but had never seen one. They promised to assist Vijay with his creative saree.
Sabitha Indra Reddy received the saree as a gift from him.
The handwoven saree that fits in a matchbox takes six days to manufacture. The saree-making procedure takes three days if a machine is utilised. The handcrafted saree costs Rs 12,000, whereas the machine-woven saree costs Rs 8,000.
Vijay informed the ministers that the handloom sector in Sircilla had undergone significant transformations in recent years. He expressed gratitude to the state administration for its assistance. Sircilla’s weavers, he said, were using the most up-to-date techniques and tools.
Vijay’s saree was previously presented during the World Telugu Conference in 2017. When former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama visited India in 2015, he gave them a saree made of very fine silk.
