Udupi: State Bank of India Manipal branch was directed to pay a Rs 10,000 compensation to one of its customers over the mental torture caused to him by the bank’s indifference in resolving his grievances.
The customer, who works with a reputed firm based in Manipal had shot mails to higher officials at SBI, Reserve Bank of India since the employees at the said branch remained unresponsive to his problems.
The customer states that the bank would debit his account towards EMI payments of his housing loan much before the due date and then freeze his account citing a lack of adequate balance. Repeated visits to the banks and calls did not yield any results.
After over seven months of visiting the branch to get the issue resolved, the customer finally decided to escalate the issue and shot mails to the Reserve Bank of India.
Following this, the branch responded to the mail with a vague reply and cited technical glitches for the issue.
Recently the banking ombudsman directed the branch to pay the customer Rs 10,000 for the mental torture he had to undergo. The customer posted about this on Facebook and advised people to approach the banking ombudsman for resolution of their grievance if the banks do not solve them.
