Udupi: Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) on Friday said that if Hijab is permitted in classrooms, Hindu students will wear saffron shawls.
In a statement, HJV said that a few communal organizations have instigated the students of a certain religion to wear Hijab to disturb communal harmony.
If the government allows the students to wear Hijab in the classrooms then Hindu students will also wear saffron shawls, it added.
A government college in Udupi district has banned students from wearing hijab inside the classroom. Seven Muslim students, who demanded that they be allowed to attend classes while wearing a hijab, have been denied entry.
The principal of the Government Women’s Pre-University College, Udupi, has said that the ban was being enforced to maintain “uniformity”.
