Passengers escape unhurt after BMTC bus catches fire

As many as 25 passengers had a narrow escape after the BMTC bus in which they were traveling caught fire near Makkalakoota signal in Chickpet police station limits on Friday morning.

The fire was noticed by the bus driver who then alerted all passengers and got them to alight from the bus. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames.

“The driver’s timely alert helped all the passengers deboard the bus. The fire brigade team immediately controlled the spread of the fire. The vehicle was moved to the central workshop, making way for the smooth flow of traffic. No passengers were hurt during the incident,” the BMTC said in a release.

The cause of the fire is to be ascertained.

A police official informed that the driver of a water tanker, which happened to pass by the same route at the time of the incident along with the bus driver, and conductor worked together to douse the flames
