A woman was astonished when she found she had won a $3 million jackpot while scanning her junk folder for a missing email.

Laura Spears, 55, of Oakland County, had purchased a Mega Millions ticket on MichiganLottery.com on December 31.

She was the winner of a $1 million reward. The prize was increased to $3 million thanks to the Megaplier.

Each Mega Millions ticket costs $2. Players can add a “Megaplier” to their play for an extra $1 each play, which multiplies non-jackpot payouts by up to five times.

“I saw an ad on Facebook that the Mega Millions jackpot was getting pretty high, so I got on my account and bought a ticket. A few days later, I was looking for a missing email from someone, so I checked the spam folder in my email account,” Spears told Michigan Lottery officials.

Further added, “That’s when I saw an email from the lottery saying I had won a prize. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, so I logged in to my Lottery account to confirm the message in the email. It’s all still so shocking to me that I really won $3 million,”

Spears went to the lottery’s headquarters to receive her win lately. She stated that the prize money will aid in her early retirement planning. She stated that the prize would be shared with her family.

“I definitely added the Michigan Lottery to my safe senders list just in case I ever get lucky enough to receive another email about a huge prize,” Spears said.
