Adopt instead of getting readymade babies: Taslima Nasreen’s surrogacy comments sparks outrage on Twitter

Taslima Nasreen, a well-known Bangladeshi author, has sparked a new controversy by voicing her views on surrogacy. Her tweets came in the backdrop of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas announcing the birth of their baby girl through a surrogate mother.

She chastised celebrities for acquiring “readymade babies through surrogacy” rather than adopting a poor child.

“Surrogacy is possible because there are poor women. Rich people always want the existence of poverty in the society for their own interests. If you badly need to raise a child, adopt a homeless one. Children must inherit your traits – it is just a selfish narcissistic ego,” Taslima tweeted.

She further added,  “How do those mothers feel when they get their readymade babies through surrogacy? Do they have the same feelings for the babies like the mothers who give birth to the babies?”

Twitter users were outraged at Taslima’s opinions on surrogacy. A few users, though, agreed with her point of view. Most internet users thought her remarks were disrespectful, emphasizing that the decision to adopt or surrogate is a deeply personal one made by an individual or couple. Some readers pointed out that medical considerations are frequently the driving force for surrogacy decisions.
