Bengaluru: The Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) apprehended a 30-year-old man for trying to smuggle foreign currency out of India.

The foreign currency — worth Rs 24.3 lakh mostly in US dollar bills — was hidden in the bottom of his trolley bag, reports said.

The incident took place on Friday night when the customs officers received a tip-off from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. The accused had earlier arrived on a domestic from Mumbai to Bengaluru to catch a flight to Dubai.  The customs officers at the airport intercepted the suspect as he was about to board the FlyDubai flight from KIA.

The passenger has not been named due to the ongoing investigations. He has been booked for smuggling a TOI report said.
