Ullal: More details have emerged behind the death of the youth, Lloyd D’Souza, who died while saving a young woman who had jumped into the sea at Someshwar beach. A love triangle is said to be the reason behind the whole incident that took place on January 28.

The deceased youth Lloyd D’Souza (29) was the son of Hillary D’Souza and a resident of Uliya in Ranipura. Whereas the woman who jumped into the water was identified as Ashwitha Ferrao (24), a resident of Panir in Kotekar.

Sources said Ashwita and Lloyd were in love for the past 8 years. However, the young man’s recent affair with another girl led to a quarrel between them and ended in a tragedy.

The Love Triangle

Lloyd who had been employed abroad had returned to his hometown 8 months ago. Unwilling to return back, he started working as a decorator in the city. However, a few months ago he met another young woman from Chembugudde and love bloomed between them.

Ashwitha, who recently came to know about her boyfriend’s love affair, got upset and had come to the beachside to talk it over with Lloyd. The local swimmers and lifeguards at Someshwar Beach had spotted them both roaming on the beach on the afternoon of the day of the incident.

A friend of the couple told the newspaper that Ashwita telephoned Lloyd’s other lover to the beachside in the evening. On hearing the news several of their mutual friends also arrived at the beach to help sort out the issue.

Deadly Question

During the talks, Ahswitha allegedly asked Lloyd, “Whom do you really love?” To which he answered, “I love you both.” Hearing this answer, a shocked Ashwitha jumped off the cliff into the sea. On the spur of the moment, Lloyd also jumped in to save her.

Hearing the shouts for help, local swimmers Mohanchandra, Sujith, Ashok Someshwara, Kalpesh, and Girish jumped into the sea to rescue the duo. Both were brought out of the water and rushed to a hospital after administering first aid. However, Lloyd could not be saved.

Expert swimmer meets watery grave

Lloyd’s friends say that he was a skilled swimmer. His death by drowning came as a shock to everyone who knew him. Local lifeguards suspect he may have hit the rocks at the bottom of the cliff or that he may have suffered a stroke due to the impact of hitting the water.

His family is inconsolable at the loss of the young man. Lloyd is survived by his parents and two siblings.

Meanwhile, Ashwitha is currently recuperating at the hospital. She is believed to be out of danger.
