Kushtagi: The normal life was affected in Kushtagi after a bandh called by Dalit organizations demanding suspension of the judge who insulted the sculptor of the Indian Constitution Dr. B R Ambedkar during the republic day celebrations in Raichur.
Dalit organizations accused the judge of Raichur district sessions court, Mallikarjuna Gowda, of insulting Dr. B R Ambedkar by refusing to attend a Republic Day function where the Constitution maker’s photo was displayed.
Three days ago, several organizations representing the Dalit community had called for a bandh on Tuesday as a protest against the “questionable and unbecoming” conduct of the judge.
Following the announcement, the traffic was sparse in the town. The streets had a deserted look. Shops and businesses were closed since morning. There were few people seen roaming the city.
Outstation buses dropped the passengers off on the outskirts of the city. Commuters had a harrowing time as public transport was completely stopped.
