23 kg gold seized at Kozhikode airport: M’luru man, several others held

Mangaluru/Kozhikode: Acting on credible information, customs officials at Karipur International Airport, Kozhikode apprehended 22 persons, including four women in separate incidents of gold smuggling on Thursday, February 3.
The passengers were Dubai returnees and had arrived here in different flights. During the frisking and security checks, the officials confiscated a total of 23 kg of gold from their possession.
Reportedly the person from Mangaluru who has been taken into custody was waiting at the airport to collect the gold consignment. Apart from the gold, officials seized two cars in this connection. Upon interrogating the arrested, it has been revealed that many are involved in the smuggling racket.
Since the easing of the flight restrictions, there has been a rise in smuggling cases, officials said.
