M’luru: Illegal LPG gas refilling unit unearthed at Permannur

Mangaluru: Police raided an illegal LPG gas refilling unit that was operating at Permannur near here on February 5.
The accused, Francis, had set up a refilling station in a shed attached to his house in Chembugudde in Permannur. The gas from the subsidized domestic cylinders was being filled into high-priced commercial cylinders.
Ullal police, along with the food inspectors and other government officials, conducted the raid based on a tip-off. Empty cylinders of reputed gas distributors were used, police said.
As many as 128 cylinders — 15 filled LPG cylinders, 112 empty cylinders, and an oxygen cylinder — were seized during the raid. the total value of the goods is estimated to be Rs 1.92 lakhs.
However, Francis who ran the whole operation fled from the spot and is absconding. Ullal police have registered a case.
