Mangaluru: Growing long and flowing hair has been associated with girls and women. Very few men grow their hair, very few among them may think of cutting it down, let alone donating it. But a Mangalurean lad Vignesh Acharya Kotekar has donated his hair, which he had painstakingly grown, for the noble cause of supporting Cancer patients.
Vignesh, a 27-year-old interior designer, is an avid animal lover. He has been rescuing all sorts of animals particularly snakes and other reptiles during his free time. His other identity has been his long and flowing hair that he has been nurturing for over 3 years now.
When asked about his inspiration for hair donation, Vignesh told Udayavani “I got inspired by the stories posted on social media about hair donation. I had been planning to donate my hair for a long time.” and thus he began to ask around for the process and requirements for hair donation.
“Some said the hair has to be at least one foot in length. I was disappointed at that because it would take too long to grow my hair to that length,” he says about the difficulties he faced while finding the right platform for donating hair. He continued to look for other organizations that could accept hair that was shorter in length.
Ultimately, Vignesh says, he got introduced to the Humanity Trust run by Roshan Belman, through a friend and RJ Rashmi Ullal. “The trust agreed to accept 8 inches-long hair strands for wig making. They would be sending it to wig makers in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
Vignesh shared the pictures of his recent donation on an Instagram post that was well received. Holding the lock of hair the post read “Donated hair for cancer patients in need of wigs. Thank you Rashmi Ullal, Roshan (founder of Humanity trust) for the help. You guys doing great job.”

We at Udayavani hope this becomes an inspiration for many more “long-haired” men too.
