Hijab Controversy: Section 144 around schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru: Prohibitory orders have been imposed around all schools and colleges in the Dakshina Kannada District. On Sunday, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra KV issued the orders under Section 144 of CrPC as a precautionary measure.
Earlier, Manglauru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar also issued orders on Sunday, February 13, imposing prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 around schools and colleges under the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate limits.
As per the order, section 144 will be in operation around 200 meters of educational institutions from 6 AM on February 14 till 6 PM on February 19.
The prohibitory orders have been clamped down at various districts as a precautionary measure to prevent any escalation of the Hijab-saffron shawl controversy.
As per the section, any activity that disturbs an individual’s personal faith or religion is prohibited. All sorts of gatherings including protests, rallies, or protests are banned. Carrying sticks, clubs, knives, or machetes and such articles that constitute lethal weapons is prohibited. Inciting slogans, songs, speeches are strictly barred.
