Basavangudi police have served a notice to the administrative staff of a Doddaganesha temple in the city over the high decibel noise due to the ringing of the bells here.

Temple has been directed to stop the use of amplifiers to control noise pollution.

As per the notice action will be invoked against temple administrative staff as per provisions of the Noise Pollution (Regulation & Control) Rules,2000 if they fail to heed to the warning.

The Doddaganesha temple has shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Minto Anjaneya Swamy, Karanji Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Dodda Basavanna Temple among others in its premises.

The notice created a furor on social media, with several criticizing the government’s move. Minister of Muzrai Shashikala Jolle issued a clarification saying that the tolling of bells or the use of loudspeakers has not been prohibited.

“It has to be ensured that noise levels are within the permissible limits,” she said and added that it was the duty of every place of worship — be it temples, churches or mosques — to abide by the law of the land.
