Noted Kannada poet ‘Nadoja’ Chennaveera Kanavi no more

Dharwad: Noted Kannada poet ‘Nadoja’ Chennaveera Kanavi passed away on February 16 at the age of 93.
Popularly known as the “Samanvayada Kavi” and “Soujanyada Kavi”, Chennaveera Kanavi had been hospitalized after contracting Covid19. He was being treated for breathing-related issues at the SDM Hospital here but passed away without responding to treatment.
Kanavi was born on June 28, 1928, in Hombal village in Gadag district. After completing his early education, he received his B.A. degree from Karnataka College Dharwad and M.A. Degree from Karnataka University Dharwad.
In 1982, Channaveera Kanavi’s seminal work Jeeva Dhwani (Poetry) got him the Sahitya Akademi Award.
Kanavi’s last rites will be held today evening as per the Lingayat traditions. He would be cremated at his farm located at Kelgeri, family sources said.
The public will be allowed to pay last respects to the great poet from 1 pm to 3 pm today at the KCD College in Dharwad, a communique from the district administration said.
