At a time when millions of Indians are undernourished, food at lavish parties is wasted in huge quantities and tossed into the trash. Awanish Sharan, an IAS official, published a post on Facebook that sheds some light on the situation, and the image will undoubtedly stun you.

The photo, which was shared on Twitter, shows a man clearing the plates from an event. However, there is a massive pile of food, mostly rice, on the ground. Sharan intended to emphasize that the massive heap of food will end up in a waste dump.

“The photo that your wedding photographer missed. Stop wasting FOOD,” read the caption.

The post has received close to 14,000 likes and numerous comments at the time of publication. While some suggested that laws be established to prevent food waste, many others suggested that surplus food be provided to those in need. Others were simply astounded by the brutal truth depicted in the image.
