Shivamogga: The city was tensed on Monday during the funeral procession of Bajrang Dal member Harsha, who had been murdered by a gang a day prior. Though there was tight police security, incidents of stone-pelting and damaging vehicles were reported.
Stones were pelted at the funeral cortege as it reached NT Road, reports said. Police soon got into action and managed to calm the communally charged atmosphere from getting out of hand. They made way for the procession to move freely.
Three persons — a photojournalist, a policewoman, and a civilian – were injured in the stone-pelting. At least 20 vehicles were torched, DHNS reported police as saying.
Shops and businesses along the procession route were shut since morning. Vidyanagar, Azadnagar, Clarkpet, and Seegehatti were among the most affected areas, reports said.
