Udupi: The work for upgrading the road connecting Ambagilu-Manipal Road via Perampalli, which has been stalled for some time now, has resumed.
On February 14, Udayavani had published an article on the problems faced by the public due to the incomplete road works. In response, the senior engineer of the Public Works Department had pulled up the contractor and issued notice for resuming the road work and completing it in time.
The 3.9km long road is being upgraded to four lanes at a cost of Rs 23 crore. The works on a 1.5km stretch from Ambagilu till Railway overbridge, were halted by the contractor suddenly. Businesses on both sides of the road were covered in dust. Commuters, especially those who traveled on two-wheelers, faced hardships due to the unfinished works. Many accidents were also attributed to the bad state of the road.
Jagdish Bhat, the AEE of the Public Works Department in Udupi assured that the works on one side of the road would be completed within the next 10 days and thereafter the work on the other side of the road will be taken up.
