Madikeri: Hawaldar Altaf Ahmed laid to rest with full military honors

Madikeri: The last rites of the Hawaldar Altaf Ahmed (37) from Madikeri who had died in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir were held in Virajpet on Saturday.

Hawaldar Altaf Ahmed, a personnel of the Indian Army’s AOC Regiment, was killed in a snow storm in Srinagar recently. The funeral with full state and military honors was held as per the Islamic customs. Family, relatives, army personnel, and people’s representatives participated in the funeral rituals.

Born and raised in Veerajapete, Hawaldar Altaf joined the Indian army after his PUC studies. He had served in the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Regiment of the army for the past 19 years.

The mortal remains of the martyred soldier were brought to the city on Saturday morning by the special command of the army and were placed at the Taluk Ground for public viewing. Lawmaker K.G. Bopayya, Shanteyenda Veena Achtyaya, M.P. Suja Kushalappa, District Collector Dr. B.C. Satheesha and others paid tributes to the soldier.
