Birders spot 76 species on Nitte’s Deralakatte campuses

Ullal: As many as 76 species of birds were spotted at the Deralakatte Campus of Nitte (Deemed to be) University here in the “Campus Bird Count-2023.”

The survey was conducted from February 18 to February 21 at the Deralakatte and Panir campuses of the Nitte (Deemed to be) University. The green initiatives have started attracting birds to migrate to the campuses.

Campus Bird Count 2022, which has been conducted every year since 2015, is a part of the Great Backyard Bird Count organized by the Bird Count India. More than 250 Campuses across India have registered themselves for the bird count this year.

Avid birders on the campus of Nitte participated in the annual bird survey.

Some of the prominent birds spotted during the survey include Asian Koel, Cattle Egret, Brahminy Kite, Black Kite, Common Iora, Black Drongo, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Red-wattled Lapwing, Common Kingfisher. Migratory birds such as the Purple Sunbird, Indian Pitta, nocturnal species such as Indian Scops Owl, Brown owl, Indian Nightjar, Jerdon’s Nightjar were also spotted.
