Mangaluru: Tree set on fire by miscreants near Town Hall

Mangaluru:  In a shocking incident, miscreants allegedly set a tree on fire near the town hall in Mangaluru on Saturday, March 5.

Many trees have been felled during road widening works carried out in the city. The trees that remain provide the much-needed shade from the scorching sun during the hot and humid summers of Mangaluru. They also cool down the temperatures, aggravated by the concrete roads. Now, miscreants are torching even the remaining few trees.

The arson has invited the ire of environmentalists and locals. Strict action should be taken against those who partake in such anti-social behavior, locals urged.

The city corporation and police should take urgent note of this issue and ensure that the green cover in the city is not harmed by such insensitive and illegal activities.
