K R Pura: An underground LNG gas pipeline exploded at a residential area of PNS layout in Subbanna Palaya near Banaswadi here on Tuesday morning, creating panic among residents of the colony. Miraculously, none were hurt in the incident.
The residents heard a loud bang at around 8.30 am and anxious residents ran out of their homes. It was found that a section of the GAIL gas pipeline that supplied cooking gas to houses exploded. The fire brigade and the police were called in.
The explosion spot was cordoned off and the fire brigade took action to avoid any major tragedy. The crew from GAIL gas also arrived at the spot and repaired the broken pipeline.
It is gathered that pressure built up in the pipeline, leading to the explosion. Locals said that on Monday crew of a cable company had dug up the area where the explosion occurred. It is suspected the pipe may have been damaged due to the work.
The slabs covering the drain where the pipe was laid were damaged in the accident. There were no reports of injuries in the incident.
