Bengaluru: Teenager held for murder of footpath dweller

Bengaluru police have arrested a teenager in connection with the murder of a 42-year-old footpath dweller near the Kamakshipalya bus stand on February 24 morning.
The deceased identified as Sathish was asleep on the pavement when the accused, identified as Sebastian allegedly killed him by repeatedly assaulting him with a cement brick.
As per the police Sebastian used to do odd jobs for a living and at times he would resort to robbery, mostly targeting footpath dwellers.
On February 23 at around 11 pm, Sebastian noticed Sathish by the roadside and assuming that he was asleep, he tried to rob him of his phone. However, upon finding that Sathish was awake he walked away only to return later at night at around 2 am. This time Sathish was asleep but woke up when Sebastian tried to pick his pocket and a confrontation ensued between the two. In the melee, Sebastian picked a brick and kept hitting Satish on his head till he died.
Sebastian later fled the scene with Sathish’s phone and Rs 500 cash. He was arrested by the police based on the testimony of a witness who had noticed a teenager kicking Sathish around 11 pm on February 23.
