A former Covid-positive patient, who spent 549 days in hospitals and facilities, has finally returned home.

Because of his protracted struggle with Covid-19, Donnell Hunter has spent the last year and a half in medical facilities. According to a CNN report, he missed several things during this time, including his daughter’s first day of kindergarten and the birth of his grandchild.

The 43-year-old was diagnosed with Covid in September 2020, when vaccines were still being developed. He returned to his home in Roswell, New Mexico, after spending 18 months in various health facilities.

Donnell told CNN, “I don’t take anything for granted, that’s for sure. I went 550 days without seeing my kids, I have a grandson that I hadn’t met and that is the big thing.”

While COVID19 has been prevalent for a long time now, Donnell’s case was unique for a variety of reasons. During Omicron, the average length of stay for adults was only 5.5 days. According to the CDC, the number was 8 during Delta.

The 43-year-old had to stay in a hospital for the duration of his illness because he was showing indications of the virus. Due to post-Covid difficulties, he is still unable to breathe properly on his own.
Because of his kidney ailment, he was first concerned when he was diagnosed with Covid-19. Donnell experienced renal failure early in childhood, according to his wife, Ashley Hunter, and was on dialysis for 15 years until obtaining a transplant in 2015.

Donnell’s long struggle with Covid ended recently, and he was led to his family’s house by sheriffs on March 4.
