This woman forced developers to build their mall around her house; turned down a million-dollar offer

An 84-year-old woman reportedly refused to accept a million-dollar offer from a company for her hoouse thus forcing them to build a mall around her property. The woman had become a local hero back in 2006.

Edith’s small farmhouse in Seattle still stands tall by the five-storey mall around it.

According to the Seattle Times, Edith paid $3,750 for the house in 1952. She has resided in the house with her mother and done a daily job since then.

The house itself is 108 years old. When the developers originally approached Edith, they made her an offer of $750,000, which was then upped to $1 million.

When Edith turned down the offer, the builders were left with little choice but to construct the complex surrounding the house.

The climax of the narrative is intriguing. In 2006, Edith became acquainted with the mall’s construction manager.

When Edith passed away in 2008, she left her home to Martin.

After being unemployed, Martin decided to sell his residence.

The former manager remembered his chats with Edith in an interview with Strange Inheritance.

Martin said, “A lot of people thought she was against the development, but that wasn’t the case at all. It was more a case of she didn’t want to go through the exercise of having to move.”
