Madikeri: Frustrated over the torture meted out by the farm owner, a driver and his family have written to President Ramnath Kovind seeking permission to end their lives.
The driver, Subramani, a native of Virajpet in his petition mentioned that he has been employed in a 250-acre estate as a driver for 25 years and resides in an accommodation provided by the owner, Annamalai .
He alleged that following some differences with the owner over a financial matter, he was asked to vacate the quarters. He however refused to do so till the owner settled his dues of Rs 12 lakh.
Angered by this, Annamalai dug a 15-feet trench around their house to prevent their movement. He also cut the electricity and water connection. The family members are heckled for passing through the farm to reach outside. Subramani has said that his wife is unwell and he finds himself helpless due to the torture by the owner.
Pavithra, his daughter alleged that they are being given life threats also and deadlines to vacate the house without settling the dues.
Subramani family has filed two complaints in this regard with Virajpet Rural police station.
However, the farm management rejected the allegations stating that it was as per the requirements of ‘Vaastu’.
