Mangaluru: Even as the state government is considering introducing Bhagavad Gita in state schools to impart moral education among children, former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that the party is not opposed to this move.

Speaking to reporters at Mangaluru International Airport on Saturday, March 19 Siddaramaiah said, “Bhagavad Gita, Quran, and Bible can be taught in schools, we do not oppose this move. Presently Gujarat government has taken the decision to introduce Bhagavad Gita in the school syllabus. The state government is yet to take a decision on the matter. Our priority is that students get a quality education. Imparting moral education is necessary but it should not be against the constitution.”

On Congress adopting a soft Hindutva approach, Siddaramaiah said that the party holds all religions in utmost respect. We believe in the Hindu religion and are not following any soft or hard Hindutva approach, he clarified.
