Bengaluru: In a heart-rending incident, a five-year-old girl died after being run over by a goods-carrying auto in Kamakshipalya traffic police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Bhuvana (5), a resident of Kaveripura in Kamakshipalya.
The incident took place at Kaveripura at around 10.30 am on March 17. Bhuvana and her mother Anita were drinking tender coconut water on the roadside when the tempo ferrying gas cylinders mowed them down.
It is gathered that the tempo driver had parked the vehicle on an inclined road, got down from it, and was chatting with a woman. However, he forgot to apply the hand brakes. As a result, the tempo started moving and dashed into the mother-daughter duo.
Both Anitha and Bhuvana fell on the road, but Bhuvana was near to the wheels of the tempo and was crushed under the wheels. Her mother’s efforts to drag her out of harm’s way were in vain. Although Bhuvana was rushed to a nearby hospital, the doctors declared her brought dead.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Dhanajaya, fled from the spot after the incident. He is still absconding.
Meanwhile, Kamakshipalya traffic police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the driver of the vehicle.
