Mangaluru: Locals put up banner reminding city administration about bad road at Sulthan Battery

Mangaluru: Sulthan Battery may be a tourist spot in the city, but the road leading to it is in shambles. Vehicles, as well as pedestrians using the road, need to negotiate what remains of the road surface. Come rains, the road turns into a slushy, muddy mess.
Despite many assurances, the condition of the road has gone from bad to worse, due to years of disrepair.
Fed up by the pathetic condition of the road, some of the locals living in the vicinity have now put up a banner to wake the administration to their plight. The banner, written in Kannada, alleges that not even 10 percent of the road up-gradation work promised has been completed and adds that commuters are facing difficulties.
If the condition of the road in the heart of the city is so bad, one can imagine the condition of the roads at tourist spots on the outskirts, the banner says. “Our representatives know only to carry out ‘Guddali Pooje’ while laying the foundation stone for any work. After that they are never bothered to check on the progress of the work,” it adds.
The banner also alleges that the people whose land was acquired for road widening work haven’t got any compensation for their loss.
The banner says it intends to open the eyes of the administration and people’s representatives to the plight of the people and warns that public protests will be held if the situation remains unheard.
