Victim Sowmya (L) and accused Yogesh.

Bengaluru: A man who allegedly murdered his wife and claimed it to be a heart attack, was arrested by the police for the crime.

The accused, named Yogesh (25) strangulated and killed his wife Sowmya (25) using a veil at their residence in Munehswara Nagar in Byadarahalli, police said.

Love bloomed between Yogesh, a cab driver from Belur Cross near Nagamangala, and Sowmya from Manchenahalli about 5 years ago. They tied the knot three years back. Thereafter, the couple had moved into a house in Muneshwar Nagar.

Things took a turn for the worse as Yogesh started harassing and torturing Soumya for dowry. Yogesh pestered his wife to ask her parents for money and jewelry. There were several quarrels between the two on this issue. His parents-in-law had gifted money to him on a couple of occasions, but he allegedly wasn’t satisfied with what he got.

On Friday, Yogesh allegedly picked up a fight with his wife for bringing Rs 2 lakhs from her parents, which she refused. In a fit of rage, Yogesh used a veil to strangle his wife. To evade being caught, he cooked up a story of Sowmya dying suddenly due to a heart attack.

However, the parents of Sowmya found something amiss and lodged a police complaint. During interrogation, Yogesh confessed to the crime, police added.
