Zomato’s new Instant Delivery service, which claims delivery in 10 minutes, has gotten a lot of backlashes online. Although the pilot program is not set to begin until next month in Gurugram, Haryana, officials from other states are meeting with the food aggregator to discuss details.

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police Department recently met with food delivery aggregators Swiggy and Zomato to address road safety, according to a press statement. The police department had previously questioned Zomato’s 10-minute rapid delivery guarantee, citing traffic congestion, according to the announcement. The Deepinder Goyal-led company also stated that Chennai will not be one of the places where the 10-minute rapid delivery service will be tested.

On March 25, the Greater Chennai Police Department met with representatives from Swiggy and Zomato, according to the release. ”

“It was observed that the traffic violations committed by delivery staff has reduced after the first set of meetings. Further steps to facilitate e-Commerce delivery in the city without public inconvenience and traffic violations were also discussed,” read the release.

Fast-selling menus with predictable demand would be included in the 10-minute immediate delivery, according to Zomato. Furthermore, the corporation stated that their delivery executives would travel 1 to 2 kilometres on average rather than the 5 to 7 kilometres that an executive would go in a regular 30-minute delivery. It will strive to lower delivery executives’ average trip time to 3 to 6 minutes, as opposed to the 15-20 minutes average travel time in a 30-minute delivery. The corporation emphasises that it will not put pressure on delivery partners to provide food more quickly. Deliveries that are late will not be penalised by Zomato.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra recently stated that Zomato’s new delivery service puts the lives of delivery employees and pedestrians on the road in jeopardy. The government also requested that the corporation alter its fast delivery schedule. According to PTI, Mishra said that Zomato would not be allowed to violate traffic rules, and the company will be held responsible for the violation of traffic rules and accidents that occur during the instant delivery process.
