Shivamogga: Amid the ongoing controversy over Halal cut meat, right-wing activists allegedly assaulted a attacked a Muslim vendor in Bhadravathi.
A case in this regard has been filed Hosamane police station in Bhadravati.
Police said that the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when Bajrang Dal activists, campaigning against ‘halal’ meat, got into an argument with a Muslim vendor. The activists told him to sell ‘non-halal’ meat at his chicken shop. The vendor said he would arrange for the same as it was not readily available. Angered by this, the activists allegedly thrashed him. Following a complaint, cops have started a probe and interrogated five right-wing activists, the police said.
In a similar incident reported from Shivamogga district, police registered a case against the same Bajrang Dal activists for allegedly threatening and abusing a hotelier in Old Bhadravati for not serving ‘non-halal’ meat to them. A case has been registered on charges of abusing the hotelier.
The halal row erupted after few organisations asked Hindus not to use halal meat during ‘Hosa Tadaku’ festival, with some giving a call to boycott it.
Asked about the call for boycott of halal meat by some right-wing organizations, Mr Bommai said, “As far as my government is concerned, we are not right-wing or left-wing, only growth wing.”
