Amid the ongoing row over halal-cut meat in Karnataka, BJP leader KS Eshwarappa on sunday opined that divisive forces are trying to create divide in the society for their own gains.
The Rural Development Minister said that people are suffering as a result of these politics. Speaking to reporters, Eshwarappa said that his family refrains from eating meat on Ugadi day.
The Halal controversy erupted after few organisations asked Hindus not to buy halal cut meat on occasion of Ugadi in the state.
“Individuals can follow their religious practise. Muslims prefer Halal cut meat. If Hindus want jatka meat they can do so. Muslims have not forced us to eat Halal meat,” Eshwarappa added.
“Instead of doing petty politics, we must fight elections by highlighting our achievements.
Who started the Hijab controversy in the state? Why Congress maintained silence when activist Harsha was murdered in Shivamogga? Congress is indulginging in minority appeasement on topic of Hijab and Halal,” he said.
Eshwarappa took a jibe at Siddaramaiah saying BJP does not boast ahead of elections. He was referring to the Congress leader’s remark that BJP will not win even a single constituency in the Lok Sabha elections.
Siddaramaiah was confident of becoming CM but lost in the elections. BJP on other hand emerged victorious in all bye elections and gram panchayat elections. Eshwarappa said that in the upcoming assembly elections BJP will win in more than 150 assembly seats
