Mangaluru/Udupi: Palm Sunday, a day to mark the entry of Jesus to Jerusalem is being celebrated by Christians on April 10.
Christians of Udupi and Mangalore Diocese congregated in the churches in the coast districts and participated in the Holy Mass.
Palm Sunday also marks the beginning of the Holy Week that culminates on Easter.
As per the scriptures, Jesus was extended a grand welcome by his followers. They weaved palm leaves, which symbolized the victory of good over evil.
To remember this important event in Christianity, devotees march through the streets around the churches holding coconut palms chanting ‘Hosanna’ along the way.
