Student overcomes disability to achieve Rank 9 in BCom examinations

Bantwal: “It’s not our disabilities, it’s our abilities that count,” said Chris Burke. This is true in the case of Aditya Bhat, a BCom student at Kalladka’s Sri Rama First Grade College.
Not willing to let his physical disability determine his life, Aditya chose to use his intellectual abilities to shine academically. Through sheer grit and tenacity, he achieved rank 9 in the BCom final year examinations with a 93.8 percent score.
Aditya, a resident of Surikumeru, suffers from a debilitating disease that weakens muscles and makes movement difficult. He has been wheelchair-bound for most of his life. His father, Ganesh Bhat daily takes him to college for continuing his education.
From an early age, Aditya has been academically gifted. He had scored 96.4 percent in SSLC and 96 percent in PUC examinations.
Aditya says his achievements were possible due to the support of his family, friends, and the college authorities. His classes were held on the ground floor for his convenience. Lecturers and faculty helped satiate his academic curiosity, he says.
The principal of the college, Krishnaprasad Kayarakatte, said that the institute is proud of Aditya’s achievements.
