A 36-year-old man jumped to death from the fifth floor of the city civil court here on Wednesday when he was being escorted by the police for a hearing in a double murder case.
The deceased, Jithin, a native of Kerala faces charges of murdering his two children — aged 1.5 years and 5 years — at their residence in Akshayanagar, South Bengaluru.
On Wednesday afternoon, when Jithin was brought to court for the trial he managed to dodge the police and jumped down from the court building. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The police personnel escorting Jithin are being questioned to ascertain how Jithin dodged the police
Jithin had murdered his children on March 20 when his wife, Lakshmi was away at work. Prior to killing them, Jithin reportedly bathed and fed both of them. Later after committing the heinous crime, he put them on the bed and went to pick up his wife from her workplace. Upon returning home the couple had dinner.
The murder came to light when Lakshmi, went into the room to check on the children and confronted Jithin. She then lodged a complaint with the police accusing Jithin of murder. In her complaint, Lakshmi claimed that they would often quarrel over issues. She even alleged that Jithin who is a Class 12 dropout had claimed to be a software engineer while marrying her.
Jithin it is said would babysit the children at home while Lakshmi used to work for a living.
