Hubballi: Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC have been clamped down in Hubli city after a stone-pelting incident took place at Old Hubli Police station on Saturday night, news agency ANI reported.
The report said that a mob gathered outside the police station demanding action against a person behind an “objectionable WhatsApp status.” Suddenly the mob turned violent and started pelting stones at the police station and police vehicles, ANI said.
The police fired tear gas shells as the earlier lathi charge by the cops did not yield any results and the mob went berserk, the report added.
At least four police personnel including a police inspector sustained injuries in the incident. “Section 144 has been imposed in the entire city. An investigation is underway & a case has been registered” the news agency quoted Police Commissioner Labhu Ram as saying.
