Chandigarh man pays Rs 15.44 lakh for a fancy number plate for his Activa scooter worth Rs 80K

A Chandigarh man, who runs an advertisement agency paid a whopping Rs 15.44 lakh for a fancy number plate for his Activa scooter that he purchased recently for Rs 80,000.
Participating in the e-auction conducted by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA), Brij Mohan made the highest bid of Rs 15.44 lakh for registration number ‘CH01CJ 0001’ against a reserve price of Rs 50,000.
The second-highest bid at the auction for 0002 of the CH01CJ series fetched Rs. 5.46 lakh.
Reportedly “0001” is one of the most sought-after fancy numbers and had fetched Rs. 24.40 lakh for CH01CH series in the previous auction while in 2012, it fetched a whopping Rs. 26.05 lakh for the CH01AP series.
A Tribune report stated that Brij will be using the number plate for his Activa scooter but would later transfer it to a car that he plans to purchase on the occasion of Diwali.
Meanwhile, successful bidders are required to get their vehicles registered as well as deposit the bidding amount within one month from the date of the auction, failing which a penalty of 10 per cent, as well as interest at the rate of 10 per cent on the balance amount, will be charged till the date of payment.
