As many as 46 people have been arrested in connection with last night violence at Old Hubli police station leaving 12 policemen, including an inspector injured.
The arrests have been made after examining the CCTV footage.
The violence erupted over a provocative social media post. Following a police complaint police arrested the youth responsible for the same.
However a mob, gathered around the police station, went on rampage damaging police vehicles and resorting to stone pelting.
“Twelve of our officers on duty were injured and some police vehicles were damaged. We will not spare those who took law into their hands. We have taken all preventive measures to stop repetition of such incident,” Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Labhu Ram told reporters.
The use of a huge number of stones made police suspect that a truckload of stones and bricks were used in the crime.
As a precautionary measure, section 144 has been imposed in the city from 11pm on Saturday till 6 am on Apr 20.
