Bajpe: 5 workers at fish factory die of suspected poisonous gas inhalation; 3 critical

Bajpe: Five workers died due to a suspected poisonous gas inhalation at a fishmeal processing factory in the Mangalore special economic zone (MSEZ) under Bajpe police station limits on Sunday evening.
The deceased workers have been identified as Nizamuddin (19), Umar Farooq, and Samiulla from West Bengal, sources said.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that 8 workers were affected during the work at a fish waste dump tank. Information is received that 5 of these workers have died, he said.
One person collapsed suddenly and the 7 workers who tried to save him were also affected, the Compol said.
Three are said to be critical and battling life and death at the AJ Hospital.
Meanwhile, the authorities have sealed down the factory.
Senior police officers and personnel from Panambur and Bajpe Police stations visited the spot and are investigating the matter.
